ELECTION: Smith enables Obama agenda

Adam Smith continues to tout his support of veterans’ causes.

I’m a veteran of two years’ combat service in Vietnam. I think of my service as an expression of commitment to the values enshrined in our country’s Declaration of Independence. Like many veterans, I believe that our current president selectively disregards those values. Speaking as a veteran, there is nothing more troubling about our current political environment.

Such disregard was most painfully shown during the process leading to this year’s congressional vote on the health care bill. I cannot recall a more intense exercise in political thuggery during my six decades on this planet. It was nothing less than a contemptuous display of disdain for the concept of “consent of the governed.”

During this process, Smith projected a very transparent image of conflicted demeanor. There was no doubt as to his final vote. He voted, as he has almost all of the time, in support of the Obama agenda. Smith’s voting record reveals him as an enabler of President Obama’s disregard for our country’s core values.

Now, Smith proclaims that the health care law is need of significant revision. Prior to voting, Smith did not lack information informing him that this was a bad bill. He voted for it anyway. In doing so, he has established a new Adam Smith best practice: When politically expedient, vote in favor of bad law; you can always offer to revise it late – after the voters call you to account.

Smith needs to go.
